Northern Star Mortuary, Inc., opened its doors on June 21st, 2007 in Kansas City, Kansas.  Independently owned and operated by Mrs. Gwendelrae Hicks (CFOP),  a graduate of  the Kansas City Kansas Community College Mortuary Science  with an Associate degree in Applied Science is a licensed embalmer and funeral director in Kansas and Missouri and Mr. Scottie Hicks, Jr. (CFO), assistant funeral director.

Northern Star Mortuary is a funeral home with a meaning and a purpose. The name was inspired reading about Harriet Tubman and how she was guided by her determination to right a wrong, her visions, faith, and strong will to lead our ancestors through the Underground Railroad. This was accomplished by using many different tools to communicate and navigate our people to freedom. When we were traveling between one safe haven to the next, the NORTH STAR was used as a guide to motivate the weary, for hope, courage, and as a light to shine their way. Northern Star Mortuary is a guiding light for the families who are grieving and looking for passion, compassion, and professionalism.
