Huey Hervey Obituary

Huey Harvey was born on February 7, 1936 to Timothy and Odessa Mitchell Hervey in Plummerville, AR. He was raised on a farm and attended Plummerville Grade School. At the age of seven, his mother died and he and his siblings were raised by their grandparents George Brent and Jewel Harvey until finishing high school. His grandparents raised them in a Christian environment, he was baptized at the age of 16 at the Conway Church of Christ on August 16, 1952. Clarence English and Isaac Wells helped him understood some insights of the Bible so that he could rightly divide God's word. They encouraged him to become a teacher to the adult class in Menifee.

Huey graduated from Conway County Training School in 1954 and moved to Kansas City, KS to attend Kansas City Kansas Junior College for two years majoring in pre-need. During that time he attended the 14th & Michigan congregation. After two years, he went to the university of Kansas City, MO. While attending college he worked as a part time porter at Deluxe Laundry. He was encouraged by Bro. W.S. Tucker to worship at the 5th & Washington congregation, where Bro. Tucker  was the minister. In 1957, they bought the church building at 1210 Troup and moved to that location. They would move again after that location to 2900 Roswell Ave. was built.

In 1958 he was drafted into the United States Army. After Basic Training, his unit was sent to Germany. It was in Germany that he began his person-to-person Bible teaching. Wherever he was stationed, he taught the gospel. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he worked for the Department of Defense with Top Secret clearance at Defense Mapping Agency.

While conducting personal evangelism, Huey met, baptized and later married Marilyn Marie Hogan. To this union was born two daughters, Marilyn Patrice and Wanda Joy. They also welcomed Michael Thornton as their special son. Huey continued personal evangelism, teaching and baptizing wherever he went. He worshipped faithfully at the Roswell Church of Christ and was ordained as an elder on June 3, 2007. He also served as a song leader, Sunday school and Bible class teacher, minister and counselor. Whether in the military or at church, he was always willing to teach the gospel. He also received his AA degree from Donnelly College in Special Education and Sociology.

Huey married Sandra K. Weston on June 11, 2011. Together they taught the gospel, faithfully teaching bible classes to those incarcerated, as well as classes at church. They had a joyous union, laughing and joking, traveling and spreading God's word wherever they went.

Huey leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Sandra, daughters Marilyn Patrice Hervey and Wanda Joy Peterson (Ray); his Special Son Michael Thornton (Lovely); Special daughter Ellie Watkins (Tyrone); grandchildren Daija Holleman and Christian Holleman; twin brother Frankm brothers James (Annie), Ronalds Sr. (Barbara), and sister Earnestine Zollar. His eldest brother Charles (Dollie) preceded him in death. He also leaves step children Zandy Medlock (Ronnie) Lamar (Shanita), Leland, and Anthony Roebuck, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
