Charlene Jones

–

Kansas City, Kansas

A devoted and loving daughter was called home to her eternal reward to the
upper room with Jesus. “It’s a Highway to Heaven. None can walk up there. But the
pure in heart”. Charlene Ruth Jones was born on 10/19/72 in Kansas City, Missouri, to
Willie Lee and Mildred Charlene Jones. Charlene was a very happy child, devoted to
helping her mama around the house. She even helped to take care of her sister when
she was small, throughout Michelle’s early years.
Charlene attended Quindaro Elementary School, West Middle School, and
graduated from Washington High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and Science
degree from Kansas State University in History and Law, a Master's in Secondary
Education from Phoenix University in History and Law, a Master’s of Science in
Counseling from Emporia State University, and a Master’s in Fine Arts from the
Savannah College of Art and Design. Charlene loved to write; she had published
several comic books. She gained a love for comic books from her father at an early age
when he would read them and pass the books on to her.
Charlene was employed with the Kansas City, Missouri, School District as a
social studies teacher, as well as a secondary and elementary academic counselor. She
loved counseling students at Central High School and King Elementary School. She
took great care in mentoring her groups, preparing class lessons, and individually
counseling with the children and their parents.
Charlene loved to travel to various cities and countries with her mother, sister
Michelle, and her new brother-in-law, who joined the fun while she was touring France.
She lived in New York City and Connecticut. Hiking gave her great joy; she hiked on the
Sleeping Mountain near Hamden and New Haven in Connecticut. She loved visiting
New York City and her sister in New Jersey. Charlene was also a member of the Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority. She loved sports, track and field, and tennis, as well as watching
and attending Kansas City Royals games.

Charlene loved our Lord and Savior. She prayed that her faith in God and His
son, Jesus, would light her path to our heavenly Father. She was baptized at Strangers
Rest Baptist Church at age 8. Charlene will be sadly missed by her family, but she is
blessed to no longer be in pain.
She leaves to mourn her loved ones, including her brother Willie Jr., mother
Mildred, sister Michelle, brother-in-law Sherman Escoffery, the Muse-Minnifee family,
the Isom family, and family in St. Louis, Missouri. Charlene, may you rest in peace with
our Lord and Jesus. You have been so courageous. That is Charlene; she always did
her best in everything. Mildred, Michelle, and Willie thank God for the time they had
together and shared with you and will remember the love you gave and continue to love
you always, until you meet again.
