Bobbie Dewberry Obituary

Bobbie Jean Morgan was born May 30th, 1935, in Conway, Arkansas, the fourth of four children born to Roosevelt and Georgianna Morgan. She attended grade school and high school in Conway and was an active member of Union Baptist Church. In the early 1950's, Bobbie Jean married Benjamin Criswell and from this union bore two children, Gordon M. and Donald L. Criswell.

Prior to moving to Kansas City, she met and married George E. Spotswood, July 5th, 1958, and from this union three children were born: Jennifer, George, and Guy Spotswood. Bobbie Jean worked various jobs until she landed a position at Trans World Airlines (now, United Airlines) retiring after 32 years of service. It was at TWA where she met and later married Leonard Dewberry, Jr. April 10th 1989.

"Sister Dewberry," she she was affectionately known, was a loyal and faithful member of the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church serving as deaconess and as Mission President for more than 30 years. She loved her church and loved her pastor. She was friendly, caring, and helped those in need when she could. She often gave treats to the children in the neighborhood and was a surrogate mother and grandmother to some. She encouraged everyone she met to, "Come to my church and hear my Pastor preach!"

She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Thomas and Gordon Morgan; two sons, Donald Criswell and Guy Spotswood; and her husband of 33 years, Deacon Leonard Dewberry, Jr., who went to be with the Lord May 9th, 2022.

She leaves to cherish memories: one sister, Geraldine Morgan Smith of Lake Village, Arkansas; children, Gordon M. Criswell (Evelyn), George S. and Jennifer K. Spotswood of Kansas City, Kansas, and Leonard DuJuan Dewberry of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; she also leaves four grand children: Jaeson L. Wickliffe, Joi L. Wickliffe, Joshua M. Criswell, and Jared R. Morgan; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
