John Daniels Sr. Obituary

Deacon John Henry Daniels Sr. (Chicken Hawk), 69, peacefully passed on February 8, 2019, at Providence Medical Center, Kansas City, KS. He was born in McGhee, AR, on April 6, 1949, to Johnnie Lee and Queenester (Crawford) Daniels. He was preceded in death by his father, Johnnie Lee Daniels, and sister, Barbara Hopkins.

John Henry married the joy of his life, Jo Ann (Poole), on November 3, 1975. They had threw beautiful children and remained married for 43 years. He graduated from Sumner High School in 1967. He honorably served his country in the U.S Army as a Combat Engineer. John Henry received the National Defense Service Medal,, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Sharpshooter with M-14 rifle before being honorably discharged. After graduating from Donnelly College with a degree in Business Administration, he worked for the U.S Post Office for seven years before launching a series of his own business, including Daniels Liquor Store, The Pop Shop, Queenie’s Burgers and Daniels Dump Truck CO. (in both K.C. and Texas). He retired in 1997 as a Data Processor after successful career with Marine Corp Finance Center and Russell Stovers. 

John Henry was a respected senior Deacon at St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member of the Male Chorus and served as Superintendent of Sunday school and in several other church activities. He was a Past Master of St. James Lodge #59, Grand Inspector General 33rd Degree Illustrious Peer of Orient Consistory #19 (A.A.S.R.) and Noble of Koran Temple #33 (A.E.A.A.O.N.M.S.). John Henry never met a stranger. He was loved by all who knew him and best known for his infectious smile and laughter that filled every room he entered. He was a member of the Ravens Basketball team upon his return from the military. He loved God, a good conversation, good soul food, collecting hats, family vacations, KU basketball, Kansas City Royals and Chiefs Football, but most of all, he loved his family. 

John Henry leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Queenester Daniels; his loving and selfless wife, Jo Ann Daniels; sons, John Jr. (Clarissa) of Lake Charles, LA, and Jack (Marshawn) of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Jovaun of Dallas, TX; naughter, LeShanda (Shelly) of Virginia; three grandchildren, Destinee, Aaliyah, and John III; brother, Larry Daniels (Stella) of Kansas City, MO; sisters, Johnnie Kendrix, Dorothy Sheppard (Steven), and Kathryn Becton, all of Kansas City, KS, Jo Ann Morton of North Kansas City, MO, Evelyn Wade of Olathe, KS and Joyce Kennedy (Melvin) of Shawnee, KS; one uncle, Jessie Bess (Choycie) of Kansas City, KS; three aunts, Eddie Rose Wimberly of Eagletown, OK, Rose Stampley of Rowlett, TX, and Dorothy Crawford of Dallas, TX; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
