King Basham Obituary

King Charles Basham was born to King and Exempress (Weaver) Basham on Aug. 4, 1951 in McCalister, OK.

His family moved to Kansas City, KS while he was a young child, where he was raised in the neighborhood of 8th and Splitlog. King was the couple's only child and he most definitely lived up to his name.

King graduated from Wyandotte H.S in 1969, and then attended Emporia State University, where he met his wife, Ethel LaShea, and mother of his first two children. He later had two children with with Tanya Sipple.

King remained young at heart throughout his lifetime and cherished his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his various pets, sports, traveling, swimming, movies, taking pictures and filming family videos. He was employed primarily in sales with various organizations. However, he was most proud of his employment in customer service with American Airlines, where he greeted people from all walks of life and enjoyed the benefit of frequent travel.

King was raised in the congregation of Sunrise Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO. As an adult he most frequently fellowshipped at Macedonia Baptist Church of Kansas City, MO where he attended men's retreats, served as a youth softball coach and in the Prison Ministry.

King Charles Basham passed peacefully, at the age of 72 y.o., on the evening of Nov. 21, 2023 at the KC Hospice House, surrounded by family.

He was preceded in death by both parents.

He leaves to cherish his memory his four children, Nicole Basham, Danielle (Dale) McDaniel, Adrian Batts and Whitney (Darryl) Marks; grandchildren, Josepha Basham, Xavier Stampley, McKhia and McKenzie Kidd, David and Dheaven McDaniel, Trevion Batts, Antonio Pacheco, Knowledge Batts, John and Javion Ross, Jaivion and Aviona Marks, Mia, Lyric and London Williams; great-grandchildren, Josiah Basham, Phaith Bagby, Legacy and Legend Rodriguez and a host of cousins and friends.
