Marie Monk was born on June 16th, 1943 to Robert and Mary Louise Palmer in Hope, Arkansas. at an early age, Marie started experiencing life's challenges that would cause her to grow up pretty quickly. By the age of 19, she would be married. Through the years, she would start having children of her own, and learning that being parent would mean making some tough and unpopular choices. Bessie Muldrow, Eddie Clemons, Robert Johnson, Maurice Johnson, Tonya Johnson, Pam Lacy, and Christopher Monk would call her Mom at some point in their lives. With pain, guilt, shame and loss, she would carry her hurt deeply hidden due to those tough choices. The times were different then, but even to this day it weighed heavily on her heart. Marie wasn't one to mince words and many often found themselves taken back by her strength, and yet vulnerable side. She wasn't much for conversation, sometimes considering herself a loaner, but when she opened up, there was a wealth of history to share.
She loved to have her coffee and cigarettes to start the day and would be the first to tell you to pray about what you couldn't control. Marie knew God and wasn't afraid to admit her faults. She knew who had the ultimate say in her life and no one could change that. Until the very end she knew people would come and go, friendship would fade, new relationships would blossom, but God wouldn't budge. She knew she was ready and on January 22nd, 2021 she took her final breath.
