Odis Barnett, Sr. Obituary

Odis Odean Barnett, Sr. was born October 10th, 1933 in Fairfield, Arkansas.  He was the second child born to Sevoy and Lucy Barnett.  At the age of about five years old the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where he was educated in the school district 500 of Wyandotte County.  He received Christ at an early age and was first baptized in Big Eleven Lake in Kansas City, Kansas.  In 2Timothy 2:15, the Bible says, 'Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.'

His journey began July 17th, 1951 when he married Alice Marie Barnett and together, they raised five children.  As a family they attended Tremont and Haskell Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder John Hanna.  He worked diligently in the church and accepted his call into the ministry and stared working alongside other Youth Ministers in their jurisdiction.  Elder Ted Byrd saw something special in Dad Barnett and in the mid sixty's , recruited him into the Ted Byrd Christ is the Answer Crusade.  For two years he traveled with the Evangelistic Team from Washington DC to California.  Upon his return he served under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan at Pentecostal Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, Missouri.  In 1969 he became a Nationally Ordained Minister and in 1973 he became Internationally Ordained, serving faithfully at that church.

The Holy Spirit led Elder Odis and Alice to Ebenezer COGIC from 1980 to 2003, where Pastor George Kemper presided; there he served in many capacities as an Evangelist, Teacher, Praise  Worshiper and Faithful Tither, he believed in bringing his tithes into the storehouse.  In 2001, God called his beloved wife to rest.

On June 5th, 2005, Odis Barnett and Delores Johnson married and started a new life together.  They both searched for a church to feed their spiritual needs and dad found that at Agape New Beginnings under the leadership of Pastor Dewayne Doss.  Dad Barnett brought over sixty years of ministry experience with him and was honored to become Church Counselor.  He was a Preacher, Teacher, Praise Worshiper and we all know that he loved to dance for the Lord.

Dad Barnett was a people person, he loved to joke, make people laugh and smile, he really knew how to make you feel special and he will be missed.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Sevoy and Lucy Barnett; sister Dorothy Cade and Ora Lee Meadows; wife Alice Marie Barnett and son, Deryl Wayne Barnett and Michael James Luther Sullivan.

Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife Delores Barnett of Johnson County, Kansas; his children; Brenda Glover (James) of Kansas City, Kansas, Odis Barnett, Jr. (Carolyn) of Olathe, Kansas, Kathy Barnett Ross of Kansas City, Kansas, Teryl Barnett (Artiemae) of Kansas City, Kansas, LaRon Johnson of Johnson County, Kansas, Ronald Johnson, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas and Leland Thomas; spiritual son Kansas City, Missouri; his loving grandchildren, great grands, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
