Rodger Matlock Jr. Obituary

Roger (Riley) Matlock Jr. was born on January 23, 1941, in Sardis Mississippi. He was the son of the late Roger Madlock Sr, and Marine Lawson Madlock. He graduated from Manassas High School in Memphis, Tennessee in 1962. While in high school he was a star athlete and excelled in football.

Roger (Riley) Matlock Jr. was united in marriage in 1962 to Dr. Dorothy J. DeWitt, and to their union one child was born, Rozelene R. Matlock, to whom he affectionally called (Hun). He accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee.

After marriage, Roger and his family relocated to Kansas City, Kansas. He was employed by General Motors (Local 31) for over 30 years and retired in 2003. Additionally, he worked in the field of security and as a Foster Grandparent in the Kansas City, Kansas School District. He also was a Masonic Member of St. James #59, where he held the positions of PWM, and secretary. Upon retirement Roger enjoyed traveling, watching football, (Kansas City Chiefs), and spending time with his daughter and other family members. He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church and served under the leadership of Pastor Arthur Mackey.

Sadly, Roger (Riley) Matlock Jr. departed from this life on Tuesday, January 18 2022, at Providence Hospital, Kansas City, Kansas.

He is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Madlock Sr. Two brothers James Madlock, and Jimmy D. Matlock. Three sisters, Martha Harding, Lena Taylor, and Willetta Goodwin.

The memories of his life will always be celebrated and cherished by his devoted daughter, (Ret) SFC Rozelene R. Wilson (Andre Sr.), of Forth Mitchell, Alabama. Two beautiful grandchildren Chelsy Wilson, Atlanta, Georgia, Andre Wilson Jr., Forth Mitchell, Alabama. One loving and dedicated sister who is the family's compassionate Matriarch, Louise Jones (Raymond), Kansas City, Kansas. Two special God Daughters Jacqueline Herron and Deborah Gaskin, Kansas City, Kansas and a host of caring, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
