Theodore Waylott Boyd 97, passed away on November 8, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 6, 1924, in Hensley, Arkansas to Ulysses Eli Boyd and Malissa Elizabeth Carradine Boyd.
Theodore grew up in Hensley, Arkansas. He joined the U.S. Navy February 25, 1943, was stationed on the NTS Great Lakes, Il U.S. Naval Adv Base Navy 140, NTC Gulfport, Mississippi and served for three years. Theodore served in World War II, achieving the rank of Carpenter’s Mate—Third Class and received an honorable discharge in Memphis, Tennessee on March 3, 1946.
He met Georgia Mae Drew and was married July 6, 1950, in Hensley, Arkansas. Seven children were born to this union that was later dissolved.
Theodore later married Laura Brown McAnderson and to this union one child was born and raised a daughter from the age of three years old.
Theodore joined Eighth Street Baptist Church July 28, 1953 and was a faithful church member. He served as an outstanding usher until his health began to fail. Along with the Usher Board, he was also a part of the Sunday School, Men’s Ministry, strong supporter of the Women’s Ministry and attended Mission meetings. In November of 2013 he was inducted into the Eighth Street Baptist Hall of Fame. Theodore built the trophy room for the church and it is still utilized to this day. He along with other carpenters worked on many projects at the church.
He was known for his strong handshakes. He enjoyed instructing and helping his nephews and grandsons learn the trade he dearly loved. Carpentry was a trade he took great pride in. Theodore and his brother Ulysses (Stanley) Boyd built the roof on the old Gates BBQ Building that once stood on 10th & State. He was in the Carpenter Union 797. Building and remodeling homes was one of his many specialties.
He was preceded in death by his son, Theodore Boyd, Jr., a daughter, Shirley Boyd; his parents; (4)sisters; Arra Jane Perkins, Sylvetta Bass, Annie Faye Burton, and Luella McClinton; (3) brothers, Sylvester Boyd, Herman Boyd and Ulysses Stanley Boyd.
Theodore Waylott Boyd is survived by his spouse Laura Brown McAnderson Boyd of the home; (4) daughters; Valcinia Boyd Lester (Larry) of Raytown, Missouri; Pamela Boyd; Sabrina Boyd; Garnice Robertson, Veronica Boyd, and Tina Carter and a son; Reginald Boyd all of KCKS; (21) grandchildren; (28) great grandchildren; (2) great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
